Add hair to head: Cut 6 inch pieces of yarn with your desired color. With dolls face facing you, insert  hook between rounds, make a look with each cut piece and loop onto the hook and pull through.  You can decide on how much or how little you want to use.
Add features to face either by embroidering the face (eyes, nose) using a satin stitch or use buttons or doll eyes.  Use a running stitch for the mouth. Here is a good tutorial for embroidery stiches .
Add buttons to body if desired.
