Laurel Hill is proud to be a part of the Knots of Love program, which collects knitted and crocheted caps for patients battling cancer or other life threatening illnesses.  We would also like to congratulate Executive Director Christine Shively, who was recognized as an “All-Star” of the “All-Stars among Us” campaign for her extraordinary community service work through Knots of Love.

The “All-Stars Among Us” program is central to the 2009 Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Summer events, which is dedicated to charitable programs and community service.  Nearly three quarters of a million votes were cast at PeopleAllStars.com by fans across the nation to select the 30 “All-Stars Among Us” winners (one per MLB Club) out of the pool of 90 finalists who exemplify leadership in their communities.

MLB is also supporting President Obama’s call for community service through “United We Serve,” a program that encourages Americans to participate in community service in their area.  Visit www.serve.gov to find community service opportunities in your area.

You, too, can donate a knitted or crocheted cap to Knots of Love. Buy a Laurel Hill Starter Kit, which comes complete with everything you need including a pattern and details for donation. We’ll also donate $3 to Knots of Love for each starter kit purchased.

For additional information about the “All-Stars Among Us Campaign” view the MLB press release.

Chemotherapy is hard on a cancer patient’s skin, causing very dry skin that can be sensitive to touch and to sun exposure.

In the summer months, Knots of Love, makes two types of caps for chemotherapy patients – caps made from cotton or cotton blend yarns (see brimmed cap picture) and sleep caps for ladies (see purple picture).

Knots of Love is our charity partner at Laurel Hill and we’re pleased to support them. If you’re a Knots of Love volunteer, contact them (or us) for your code. $1 of every purchase at our online store goes back to the organization.
