Martin Luther King Day is coming up next week and there is no better way to spend your day off than knitting a hat to keep your head and ears nice and warm for winter! To create your very own “slouchy hat” check out the directions listed below:

Note: When working ribbing, sl st loosely
and do not ch at beg of rows.
Ribbing:
1st row: 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sl st
in each ch across. Turn. 12 sl st.
2nd row: Working in back loops only, 1 sl st
in each of next 12 sl st. Turn.
Rep 2nd row until work from beg measures
17″ (43 cm). Do not fasten off.
Join back seam: Working in back loops
only, sl st last row and rem loops of
foundation ch tog. Do not fasten off.
Turn work and proceed as follows:
Hat: Beg working in rnds: 1st rnd: Ch 1.
Working along row ends, work (1 sc. 1 dc)
18 times evenly around. Join with sl st to
first sc. 36 sts.
2nd rnd: Ch 2. 1 dc in same sp as last sl st – beg
cluster made. 1 sc in next dc. *(Yoh and draw
up a loop. Yoh and draw through 2 loops) twice
in next sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on
hook – cluster made. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from
* 16 times more. Join with sl st to top of beg
cluster.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. (1 sc in next cluster. 1 cluster in
next sc) 18 times. Join with sl st to first sc.
4th rnd: Beg cluster. 1 sc in next cluster.
(Cluster in next sc. 1 sc in next cluster) 17 times.
Join with sl st to top of first cluster.
5th and 6th rnds: Rep 3rd and 4th rnds once
more.
7th rnd: Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in next st. Miss
next sc. Draw up a loop in next st. Yoh and draw
through all loops on hook – decrease made.
Cluster in next sc. 1 sc in next cluster. Cluster in
next sc. Rep from * 5 times more. Join with sl st
to first st. 24 sts rem.

There is nothing like making your own stocking just in time for the holidays! This simple pattern can help you make your very own. Directions are listed below:
MEASUREMENT: Approx 13 ins [33 cm] long from cuff to heel.
MATERIALS: Bernat® Happy Holidays (100 g/3.5 oz; 219 m/240 yds)
MC: 31706 Evergreen Glitter 2 balls
A: 31005 Silver Sparkle 1 ball
Size 5 mm (U.S. H or 8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
GAUGE: 13 sc and 15 rows = 4 ins [10 cm]
INSTRUCTIONS: Cuff: With A, ch 11. 1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. 10 sc. Turn. 2nd row: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row until cuff measures 14 ins [35.5 cm], ending with a WS row. Fasten off. Sew side seam.
(RS). Join MC with sl st at side seam. Work 46 sc evenly around Cuff. Join. Next rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join.
Rep last rnd for 11½ ins [29 cm]. Fasten off.
Heel: (RS). Join A with sl st to first sc. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sc as sl st and each of next 22 sc. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row for 2 ins [5 cm], ending with a WS row.
Shape heel: 1st row: (RS). Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 15 sc. Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook – sc2tog made. 1 sc in next sc. Turn.
Leave rem sts unworked.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 9 sc. Sc2tog. 1 sc in next sc. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 10 sc. Sc2tog. 1 sc in next sc. Turn.
4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 11 sc. Sc2tog. 1 sc in next sc. Turn.
5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 12 sc. Sc2tog. 1 sc in next sc. Turn.
6th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 13 sc. Sc2tog. 1 sc in next sc. Turn.
7th and 8th rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 14 sc. Sc2tog. Turn. 15 sts. Break A. Joining rnd: (RS). Join MC with sl st at left side of Heel Base. Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 23 sc of instep. Place marker. Work 7 sc up right side of Heel, 1 sc in each of next 15 sc across top of Heel and 7 sc down left side of Heel. Join. 52 sc in total. Next rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to marker. Sc2tog. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc. Sc2tog. Join. Rep last rnd until 44 sts rem.
Work even in sc for 5½ ins [14 cm] from joining rnd. Join A at end of last rnd. Break MC.
Shape toe: 1st rnd: With A, (Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 9 sc. Sc2tog) 4 times. Join. 2nd rnd: (Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 8 sc. Sc2tog) 4 times. Join.
Cont in same manner, dec 4 sts on every rnd until 12 sts rem.
Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end tightly through rem sts and fasten securely. Fold cuff to RS.
Loop: With MC, ch 25. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end of ch. Fasten off. Fold in half and sew in position.
